Meet The People Behind The Business
Charlie Amato is the Chairman and co-founder of SWBC. With nearly 40 years of experience in all aspects of insurance operations, underwriting, and product development, Charlie is known in the business community for his innovative, relationship-building approach.
Throughout his career, he has received recognition and several awards, including inductions into the Texas Business Hall of Fame, the Sam Houston State University’s (his alma mater) College of Business Hall of Honor, and the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame. He was also named one of the San Antonio Business Journal’s “Most Influential San Antonians.” In 2012, Charlie received the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Salute to Excellence Award, and in 2009, he received the Beta Gamma Sigma Medallion for Entrepreneurship.
Charlie is also an active participant in various charities and corporate leadership activities. He is proud to have been appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the Texas State University System Board of Regents. In addition, he is the Vice Chairman of the Texas Business Leadership Council and the 2013-2014 Presiding Chair of the Campaign Cabinet for the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation. He also served as the 2012 General Campaign Chair for United Way. Charlie is a member of the Business and Community Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the Chairman of the Lone Star Capital Bank Advisory Board, and the past Chairman of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. He is currently a member of the San Antonio Spurs Foundation, the Alamo Bowl, and the United Way Executive Committee. Charlie is also part owner of the San Antonio Spurs.
Gary Dudley co-founded SWBC in 1976 and serves as its President. For nearly four decades, Gary has been instrumental in developing SWBC’s business model and dedication to customer service.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and received the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award, Gary spent six years with the United States Marine Corps Reserve and embarked upon his nearly 40-year career in the insurance industry. During that time, he has guided the development of SWBC’s technology, administration, delivery systems, and product development.
Gary is also known for his devotion to building and maintaining relationships at his alma mater and in the San Antonio community. Gary received the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Salute to Excellence Award in 2012, and in 2009, he was awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma Medallion for Entrepreneurship. Gary was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame, the College of Business Hall of Honor – Sam Houston State University and into the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame. In addition to being part owner of the San Antonio Spurs, he currently serves as a Board Member for the Silver and Black Give Back. Gary is a member of the President’s Council and College of Business Administration Advisory Board at Sam Houston State University. He also devotes many hours giving back to the community, serving as a board member of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation and the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. He also co-founded HCV Coalition for The Cure.
